This writing will inform the readers of the Apex Herald
about the history of the chiropractic profession, plus
some real time happenings of today. The
chiropractic profession had its official beginning
in 1895, the same year the x-ray unit was invented.
A charismatic man by the name of Daniel Dave Palmer,
DD for short, gave the first chiropractic correction.
The recipient of this historical act was a janitor
by the name of Harvey Lillard. Something special about
this man, and the special care he received, was that
he was a deaf man for the past seventeen years of
his life. Here is a snapshot from a window in time
a hundred and nine years back.
A
quote from DD himself:
Harvey
Lillard …could not hear the racket of a wagon
wheel on the street or the ticking of a watch. I
made inquiry as to the cause of his deafness and
was informed that when he was exerting himself in
a cramped, stooping position he felt something give
way in his back and immediately became deaf. An
examination showed a vertebra racked from its normal
position. I reasoned that if that vertebra was replaced,
the man’s hearing should be restored. With
this object in view, a half hour’s talk persuaded
Mr. Lillard to allow me to replace it. I racked
it into position by using the spinous process as
a level, and soon the man could hear as before.
This
act of care birthed the beginning of the world’s
largest alternative health care profession, CHIROPRACTIC.
This line of care draws on the basics of two tenets:
A)
The human body is self healing.
B) The nervous system controls every organ, muscle
and sensory device of the human body.
If
there is a problem with the nervous system then the
organ, muscle or sensory device can have a problem.
Simply put, if you step on the garden hose the sprinkler
is not going to work as well.
The
profession is considered an alternative in that the
normal means of drugs and surgery are not called upon
to bring about an alleviation of pain or disease.
This profession has liberated millions upon millions
of people from a less than desirable life. The chiropractic
profession has created a way of healthcare that empowers
the patient to be the main player in the restoration
of their health. For true lasting “health”
comes from within, not some external chemicals that
alter the way the human body functions. Here at Chiropractic
First we stress to our patients that the chiropractor
is the coach and they are the team. If we are to win
the goal of good health, first it takes their body
being allowed to respond to the care given in the
office. Second, it lies on their doing what the coach
says to attain, and maintain good health.
In discussing our latest success story with Dr. Marcus
Schuster, from Sanford, I think we have come to a
reason for the favorable results. First, let me share
this week’s success story from a fifteen-year-old
female ...
For
years I couldn’t hear out of my right ear
as well as I could from my left. I had also suffered
from regular headaches. After Dr. Gallagher adjusted
my atlas I’ve regained all my hearing in my
right ear and I haven’t experienced another
headache.
... Amber L., Apex NC.
After
an examination and x-rays it became quite clear that
Amber had an atlas misalignment. The atlas is located
where the brain stem exits the skull and supports
the head, equally important, where the vertebral artery
enters to the brain. I state that because eleven of
the twelve cranial nerves get their blood supply from
this blood vessel. When there is a misalignment in
the atlas vertebrae, in addition to nerve interference
there can also be a reduction in the precious blood
supply. This blood supply is so desperately needed
by our brain and associated nerves that any decrease
in it can and does cause problems. One those twelve
cranial nerves just happens to be the one that goes
to your ear. Since that nerve was not allowed to express
its normal function the out come was disease or dysfunction.
As such our teenage patient is now headache free and
her hearing is equal in both ears.
